Welcome to the Cleveland-Detroit Metroplex (CLE-DTW METROPLEX) Environmental Assessment Website

The FAA has prepared a Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) in accordance with FAA Order 1050.1F to document the potential environmental effects associated with the optimization of aircraft routes and the supporting airspace management structure serving aircraft operating under instrument flight rules (IFR) while departing from or arriving to the Cleveland-Detroit Metroplex area.

The Draft EA for the CLE-DTW Metroplex project was released and made available for public review and comment on Friday, November 10, 2017. A copy of the document can be downloaded from the documents webpage. Public comment period is now closed.

The Project

The CLE-DTW Project would improve the efficiency of airspace in the Cleveland-Detroit Metroplex by optimizing aircraft arrival and departure procedures to and from the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) and Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) as well as outlying satellite airports. The Project may involve changes in aircraft flight paths and altitudes in certain areas, but would not result in any ground disturbance or increase the number of aircraft operations within the Cleveland-Detroit area.

To evaluate the potential environmental impacts of the CLE-DTW Metroplex project, the FAA has established a General Study Area, consisting of areas around CLE-DTW and outlying satellite airports.  The General Study Area will be used to evaluate the potential environmental impacts resulting from changes in aircraft routing proposed to occur below 10,000 feet above ground level (AGL).
