Welcome to the Charlotte (CLT) Optimization of Airspace and Procedures in the Metroplex (CLT OAPM) Environmental Assessment Website

The FAA has prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA) in accordance with FAA Order 1050.1E to document the potential environmental effects associated with the optimization of aircraft routes and the supporting airspace management structure serving aircraft operating under instrument flight rules (IFR) while departing from or arriving to the Charlotte Metroplex area.

Please use the navigation bar on the left to access important information on the EA, including the EA documents and contact information for the Project.

The Draft Environmental Assessment (Draft EA) document for the CLT OAPM project was released and made available for public review and comment on Friday, December 5, 2014.  A copy of the document can be downloaded here. The public comment period ended on February 2, 2015 and is now closed.

The Project

The CLT OAPM Project would improve the efficiency of airspace in the Charlotte Metroplex by optimizing aircraft arrival and departure procedures to and from the Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) and outlying satellite airports. The Project may involve changes in aircraft flight paths and altitudes in certain areas, but would not result in any ground disturbance or increase the number of aircraft operations within the Charlotte area.
